In 1967 Fred Adkins was performing Preventive Maintenance on OTR Fleet Truck accounts such as; Sears Heilig-Meyers & Coca-Cola. As part of the normal PM Service ‘Commercial Truck Service’ also spruced up the inside of the cab - picked up the trash, wiped down the dash & emptied the ashtray. Those clients noticed the extra effort & began asking him to clean the exteriors as well. In his search for the best, most efficient, labor saving method of cleaning trucks he discovered the Chemex TWO STEP Pressure Washing Method & he went ALL IN. In addition to providing the cleaning services – he also began to sell these machines giving birth to the distribution side of CTS Cleaning Systems.
Together with his son Fred R. Adkins II, they improved the Chemex Toggle Switch design into a mechanical ‘Wireless Remote’ trigger method. This allowed the operator to switch from – STEP ONE (Acid) to STEP TWO (Alkaline) to RINSE all by actuating the trigger – eliminating the need for wired hoses & toggle switches. This 3100 WR 2 Step Unit set the stage for the production element as well as the spec. design & build side of the company.
In 1999 the company broke ground on their current facility a mile West of I-95 in Fayetteville, North Carolina. This afforded them the space to begin developing & blending their own formulas for cleaning detergents, truck wash soaps & degreasers.
Today CTS Cleaning Systems, Inc. Distributes a wide range of products in support of the cleaning equipment industry to include Pressure Washers, Parts Washers, Air Compressors, Water Treatment Systems, OTR Drive Thru Fleet & Car Wash Systems. They currently build 30 – 40 specialized machines for a number of different industries. The blending side produces roughly 20 – 30 thousand gallons of product annually.
